Postponed until Fall - FPA Ohio Advocacy Day 2020

Help us connect with our State Legislators!

Last year, our Advocacy Day was a resounding success and one of the most successful FPA advocacy days in the country!

This year we are going all out to to make it doubly successful, but we absolutely need your help! The board has graciously allocated funding and NE Ohio has also stepped-up to to make this an unforgettable event that is one of the most rewarding activities that you can participate in through our local FPA Chapter.

Our Ohio Advocacy Day is scheduled for May 14,2020 and, new this year, we are planning a one-of-a-kind reception at the State House the evening before to network with legislators and let our members network to move our profession forward.

Ohio Advocacy Day Timeline:

  • Networking Reception (Optional):
    • Wednesday, May 13 – 4:00pm-6:30pm – Participant welcome, reception at the State House, and networking with members and legislators.
  • Actual Advocacy Day:
    • Thursday, May 14 – 7:30am-4:00pm:
      • 7:30-8:30am – Breakfast, introductions, itinerary review, & position/presentation reviews.
      • 8:30am-12:00pm – Meetings with representatives.
      • 12:00-1:00pm – Lunch (some rep meetings still in progress).
      • 1:00-4:00pm – Final meetings with representatives.

Sign up to come!

We need you!

For too long, our industry has only been represented by large banks and financial institutions that may or may not be lobbying on our, and our clients', best interests. Our State lawmakers need to speak with and get to know the true professionals who guide the financial well-being of many of their most important constituents' lives!

You can make that difference by just taking 1/2 of 1 day, once a year! To summarize some of the key issues that have come up in recent years and why your representation is key to our profession:

  • First and foremost - Financial Advisory fees are no longer deductible!
  • For multiple years, Ohio has considered instituting a professional service tax, which wouldn't be ideal for us.
  • We want to be able to influence government regulation to minimize impact on us and our clients, which is easier through cultivating relationships ahead of time.
  • It would be huge step forward to one day get advisory fees deducted from annuities and life insurance to be non-taxable.
  • Lastly, we want to be in a position to get in front of new issues that will come up in the future...
