Scholarship Opportunities

FPA of Central Ohio has provided scholarships since 2000 in order to grant scholarships to students preparing for careers in the field of financial planning.

 

FPA of Central Ohio (FPACO) Scholarship Fund

 

Scholarships are awarded annually to college and university students and/or prospective CFP® candidates, based primarily on merit. Below are eligibility requirements and an overview of the application process.

Eligibility Requirements:

A student applicant must meet the following criteria to be eligible for a scholarship:

  • Enrolled at a not-for-profit college or university.
  • Classified by the school as at least half-time based on credit hours taken.
  • Has never been awarded a scholarship from FPACO.
  • Expected to remain enrolled and at least half-time for the entire 2021-2022 academic year, or until graduation if expected to graduate early in the 2021-2022 academic year.
  • Majoring, minoring or maintaining a focus in a discipline which could reasonably be expected to translate to a career in financial services and/or financial planning.
  • Carrying a current GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Tuition costs are not already covered by other grants or scholarships.

A financial professional applicant (non-student) must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

  • Either currently enrolled in an accredited CFP® certification education program or will enroll in one immediately upon awarding of a scholarship.
  • Has never been awarded a scholarship from FPACO.
  • Unable to receive any reimbursement for expenses related to earning CFP® certification.
  • Expected to complete CFP® education and exam requirements within 18 months.

Deadline:

Applications must be submitted by 5:00 PM on Friday, March 26, 2021 to be considered.

Award Amounts:

Four $1,000 student scholarships will be awarded.

One $1,000 financial professional scholarship will be awarded.

2021 FPA Central Ohio Scholarship Recipients

FPA of Central Ohio offers scholarships annually to deserving students seeking a career in financial services. We are happy to announce this year’s class of scholarship recipients. In alphabetical order by surname:

Logan GrayLogan Gray, Undergraduate, The Ohio State University Class of 2022 (LinkedIn)

Logan is majoring in Finance and minoring in Consumer and Family Financial Services. Among many leadership roles, he serves as a volunteer financial coach for Ohio State’s Scarlet and Gray Financial program to benefit his fellow students. He intends to graduate after the upcoming fall semester and then sit for the CFP® exam next year.

 

 

Olivia HerzogOlivia Herzog, Undergraduate, The Ohio State University Class of 2022 (LinkedIn)

Olivia is a third-year Consumer and Family Financial Services major also minoring in Spanish. She began saving for her own college at the age of 15 and works full-time outside of school to continue paying her way. An active member of Student FPA and the University Business Women’s Association, she intends to graduate in May 2022 and to then sit for the CFP® exam.

 

 

Lauren NoffLauren Nolf, Undergraduate, The Ohio State University Class of 2022 (LinkedIn)

Lauren will be interning at PwC this year and intends to graduate in May 2022 with a Finance Major and Consumer and Family Financial Services minor. Outside of classes, she currently serves as an Analyst for Ohio State’s Buckeye Capital Investors group for students and is the President of the school’s Make-A-Wish chapter. She plans to sit for the CFP® exam in late 2022.

 

 

Joel PottsJoel Potts, Undergraduate, The Ohio State University Class of 2023 (LinkedIn)

Joel is a member of Ohio State’s varsity rifle team studying Finance with a Consumer and Family Financial Services minor. He is an active member of Student FPA and is in training to become a coach for Scarlet and Gray Financial. He intends to pursue a career in financial planning and to sit for the CFP® exam after graduation.

 

 

Iris WallaceIris Wallace, Undergraduate, The Ohio State University Class of 2022 (LinkedIn)

Iris is a single mother to four sons who has had to delay completing her education for years to care for her family. Despite being laid off during the pandemic last year, she has rededicated herself to finishing school and she expects to graduate in late 2022 with a degree in Consumer and Family Financial Services. She also works full-time outside of class as a contract consultant.

2020 FPA Central Ohio Scholarship Recipients

FPA of Central Ohio offers scholarships annually to deserving students seeking a career in financial services as well as planning professionals interested in pursuing CFP® certification. We are happy to announce this year’s class of scholarship recipients.

S. Harris

Sydney Harris, Undergraduate, The Ohio State University Class of 2021 (LinkedIn)
Sydney will be interning this summer for Atlanta-based wealth management firm TrueWealth. As the third member of her family to attend college, Sydney aspires to provide financial literacy to the African-American community and underserved individuals. She is majoring in Consumer and Family Financial Services and minoring in Insurance, with an expected graduation next May.

 

 

S. HuangStella Huang, Undergraduate, The Ohio State University Class of 2022 (LinkedIn)
Stella is an Accounting major, also minoring in Consumer and Family Financial Services. She entered OSU intending to become a medical doctor but changed her career focus and major after attending a financial planning convention. She intends to emphasize tax planning as part of a goals-based planning approach upon her graduation.

 

 

A. RitterbachAllisa Ritterbach, Financial Planner, Advanced Retirement Design (LinkedIn)
Allisa is a Consumer and Family Financial Services student graduating this year from The Ohio State University. She has worked at the Dublin-based Advanced Retirement Design since November, assisting the firm owner with planning recommendations, client service and social media marketing. She plans to study for and complete the CFP® certification exam within the next year.
